Clutch Cable issues

So clutch cable on my 97 900 SET broke and I called around to find one so I could fix it that day rather than ordering... I picked one up at the local Euro specialty shop and didn't look at it, I assumed it was a Saab part since it was $72 and just drove home with it... Come to find out it's some kind of manual-adjustment cable that replaces the automatic Saab part... I put it in 'cause I was in a rush and it seems to work OK, but I want to know if anyone knows anything about these manual replacements and if they work OK...
Also, does anyone have any tricks for getting the pedal return spring hooked back up? I was trying to do this without removing every damn thing under the steering column and the spring popped, I cant get it hooked back up blindly...
