9-3 Clutch Bleeding problems

I recall that in the past someone posted problems related to bleeding a clutch on a 9-3. This weekend as part of getting the car ready for winter I decided to flush the brake fluid.
I have a vacuum (runs off of compressed air) bleeding system. Bleeding the brakes was easy and no problems occurred.
On the other hand I used Saab's procedure for bleeding the clutch, with one exception. Saab suggests using the vacuum system along with a filling device which keeps the reservoir full at all times. I have no such device. Turns out that on the 9-3 reservoir the clutch hose it tapped in at the TOP of the reservoir. (Recall that on a classic 900 it is at the bottom.) Thus I managed to such air into the system.
After bleeding the system and thinking that all the air was removed I was somewhat surprised to find that the clutch pedal went to the floor. Saab suggests using the classic hold the pedal down while opening the bleeder, followed by closing and finally releasing the pedal. Tried this process with little success.
Finally I connected up my trusty Gunson pressure bleeding system. This bleeder pressurizes the reservoir, just like what was recommended for the classic 900. After bleeding more brake fluid than I ever want to see for a long time I recovered use of the clutch.
My question is what do other people do with their cars? The following words come to mind, “give me a break it can’t be this hard!”
