I've had a 2000 base for the past year. Back then, at least in the LA area, it was next to impossible to find SEs below 30 grand. A nice base with leather, roof etc was between 26 and 27. So from that persective the SE for 27-28 is a no brainer. I have the 16 wheels and pilots which I find work very nice wuth the slightly softer base suspension. The rest of the extras on the SE seem a bit superflous to me. I absolutely do not like the cheesy wood dash-this is an old marketing gimmick. The climate control is something I guess I would get used to but I found it sort of annoying. The power seats are probably the only thing which makes a real difference day to day. BUt there's OBVIOUSLY a reason why Saab is offering these cars at the prices they stickered for about 4 years ago. THEY ARE OBSOLETE! I suspect the 2002 will be out by mid summer, just like the 1999 9-3. It will have to be a dramtically superior automobile in order for it to make any economic sense. The new body will probably have the substantial feel of a 9-5 yet be considerably more nimble. I have driven 9-5s and they are even bigger than a E-class Mercedes-not much fun but very sturdy. The 2002 will have a real independent back end and probably the ability to have 4WD combined with serious power. So just wait, I'm sure you won't be sorry.
