Bruce,
Sorry to have bent you out of shape, but my comment about the "apparent" function of the membrane was based on other posts I have seen here on Saabnet. Thanks for setting me straight.
My primary reason for that post was to warn Brice to be careful of the airbag sensors in the doors, and that advice is still valid.
In hindsight, it now seems obvious that the membrane cannot be a pressure trap, because the window comes down INSIDE the membrane. That means the window slot at the top of the door is also within the membrane area, so no way it will trap pressure inside the door. But that also implies that your explanation for the function of the membrane cannot be right either. The membrane cannot prevent water leaking down the window from getting inside the door (at least in the 9-3), because that water will already be on the inside of the membrane. Perhaps Saab's intent in the 9-3 was merely to keep stray fingers away from the airbag sensor, but that would not apply to the NG900. Another possibility might be to give the door some degree of insulation for cold weather and road noise, at least when the window is up. Or maybe it's something else entirely. Don't know.
