Susi
Get accustomed to owning a performance vehicle that costs considerably more to maintain than a Corolla - two cars on opposite extremes. With the SE, you'll be using Premium fuel and Semi-synthetic oil vs regular and DINO oil. The costs are a bit higher for the day to day operation.

Do not wait until 10,000 miles per Saab's maintenance schedule to change the oil. Get the 1,000 service (free to you) and then have one performed at 5,000 miles. You will get the 10,000 mile service free (approx $140) as part of the SE maintenance program. You also save the $140 for this service at 20,000 and $600-800 for the 30,000 service. The oil change here in Princeton NJ is $33 for the Saab semi-sythetic oil.

Also, 2001 Saabs got an AWESOME insurance rating back in January - call your agent and make sure your carrier is recognizing that in your premiums. Here's the link on Saabnet:

Brace yourself for inevitable rattles and squeaks. It seems to be a Saab tradition. I am on my 2nd Saab - first was a 97 900 S and now a 2000 93 SE.
Both were plagued with minor (and correctable) interior noises. Get yourself some furniture felt pads and a driver ! ha hahaha

Sport mode consumes more gas - I have noticed this when traveling long distances with it engaged/disengaged. I lost about 30 miles for the entire tank when running the trip completely in Sport. Be practical when you can, I suppose.

Have fun and welcome to the club !!!
