Ours is a '99 9-3 with 46K km. We've had no reliability problems. The broken heater switch and the split plastic air dam waaaay underneath the car were the only things. The first item was a nuisance; the second was a cosmetic item.
These are common faults but there have been no other dealer-necessary troubles. Some people complain about squeaky shocks or control arm bushings in cold weather but I just live with this item as the problem goes away almost as soon as you hear it. To me, it's just not worth a special trip to the dealers and it happens maybe once a month.
Our car is used 85%+ in the city. This is brutal wear 'n tear territory. If anything's going to go wrong with a car, chances are it will happen because it's subject to stop 'n go driving conditions.
