That's exactly my point, the laws I was referring to basically state that the insurance company has to replace your windshield without ANY cost at all to you the customer (can't raise rates, or tap your deductible). I wouldn't check with *your* insurance company just in case these laws aren't in affect in Canada (then your insurance company would know that you're driving around with an unsafe windshield).
If, by some chance, this law does apply to you, I gaurantee that your insurance company will try their damndest to get you to replace your glass with some generic replacement. They don't care about the security numbers engraved in your current glass. Believe me, I went through all of this garbage with my insurance company. They are evil bastards and will do anything to screw you out of a quality replacement, mainly because it comes directly out of their well-lined pocket.
That's why checking on the insurance laws is very important before replacing your windshield.
