I decided to by a SAAB 9-3 because it had by far the best package/$(or EURO). The package I am talking about is performance on all road conditions, safety and gargo room.
If I would have bought my car from Europe I propably would have bought VW Passat 2.8 4Motion. It's pretty much in a same price category with SAAB 9-3 in Europe, but it wasn't available in the US.
9-3 looks pretty neutral for me. Audi A4 1.8T looks better and probably it doesn't rattle as much as 9-3 but it doesn't have the performance. And rattles are easier and cheaper to fix than upgrading performance. A4 with 2.8 engine is too expensive for me.
I like BMW's. I prefer rear wheel drive over front wheel drive but it's too expensive nowadays considering the package I mentioned. This morning I drove BEHIND the BMW M5 and I thought that's the best production car ever built....
S40 T4 (200hp) is the only Volvo which could fit to the price range but the winter performnce is lousy according to the car magazines and I'm not sure about the safety. It looks nice though. I believe it's been built in the Netherlands.
And one interesting thing is pretty nice about the Saab's. They have been allways at the top in any tests which are based on facts - not feelings !
Marko
ps. Swedes makes still pretty good car ever they lost 5-4 in Germany....;)
