If it's within your means,I'd go for Viggen. Especially since it's the model you had wanted (lusted for) in the first place. And remember, this 2001 model year may be your last chance to get a new one. Who knows whether Saab will offer a Viggen in 2002, since that will be the last year of the current generation 9-3. Initially, there probably won't be a Viggen version of the new 9-3.

Objectively, I know there are many ways to reliably tune your 9-3 and achieve Viggen-like (or better ) performance. And the board is full of knowledgeable folks to help you do it. But hey, let's face it, it's hard to be completely "objective" when talking about the car of your dreams, isn't it?

The other day,at the WalMart parking lot, I came across 2 Saabs parked next to each other. Both coupes. A silver base model, and a black Viggen (which actually had two-tone seats that were charcoal and some kind of orange/copper color??). Was that some rare combination available at one time? See pic. That interior looked great with the black car. Anyway, I stood there looking (ok, drooling) at the two cars for several minutes. I knew that, in some ways, they were the same basic vehicle and that I'd be happy to own either one of them. And, objectively, I knew that I could have a base coupe for far less money and be a happy Saaber while pocketing the savings. But damn! The Viggen just looked so "right", sitting there with an immaculate shine and that terrific interior, that objectivity went right out the window. The "look" combined with all that extra performance "right out of the box" made me realize which model I'd choose if it were within my means......no question about it.
