I won't give you financial adivise but, I will share
my lease experience. I have leased 10 autos in 15 yrs..
I have purchased by cash or bank loan 47 autos in 30 yrs..
I am currently leasing a 1999 Saab 9-3. My lease through
SAAB was $0 down and $319/mon. for 48 months. Of course there
are taxes, registration, first month lease.. etc. .Out of
pocket at delivery about $1100. My Window Sticker $30,500.
Every $1000 up or down, at today's interest rates should
effect you about $10/mon. A finacially attractive lease
should, i.e. monthly payments low, should not be attractive to
purchase. Why?? Because by making affordable payments the
cars cost is not greatly reduced. So, if you try to buy out,
the price of the auto is too high to be attractive.
My experience is if you are going to lease, then lease.
If you believe you want to own then arrange financing from
the inception and buy.
The best candidates for a lease are a high value auto which,
depreciates slowly. Add to that a good interest rate and
you have an attractive affordable lease. You are able to drive
a higher value auto, that you might not ordinarily be able
to fit in you budget. The down side, you will always have
a payment.
P.S. SAAB does offer incentive deals once or twice a year
which will be much better then your current deal. In this
area $399/mon w/$1000 down usually will get you a 9-5.
