The tie rods go through an opening in the chassis from the steering rack to the wheel assembly. You can see it's nice and clean at the top of the tie rod where it hits the top of the opening except for mark of Imola red paint from the chassis itself. You can see more clearly a nick in the top of the opening where the tie rod has hit. Sure, the ride might not feel stiff but it allows enough movement to bottom over what should be considered an acceptable condition. I put some rubber spacers in the springs, the kind that wrap around, and that helped a good deal.
That's all I can say without adding my own "conjectures".
