The other poster gave the speaker sizes. What I'd recommend is to also buy the "skewdriver" tool (the higher end professional model) from Crutchfield. Go to their web site, and do a search on skewdriver. This will make it 100% easier to remove the screws from the dash speakers and the rear pillars.
Read the audio guide that was suggested, too. I'd recommend first just going with the dash speakers, as that's the easiest, gives you the most sound improvement, and the speakers are the most inexpensive. People here have had good success with the Infinity Kappas. I went with Boston Acoustics just because I like them better. Another good name that I would trust is Polk. I would stay away from Pioneer, Sony, and the like, in my opinion, they sound too "brashy."
When you remove the stock speakers, there's a a connector that Saab uses. I simply inserted the tinned ends of the replacement speaker wires into the connector. You want to keep track whether you put the striped wire into position one or two in the connector, and keep that consistent throughout the car.
