I replaced mine a few months ago on my 99 9-3. I took off the plastic cover and the canister was visible. There is a clamp that goes around the canister that when loosened the canister will come loose. I would suggest that you undo the lines before taking the canister loose, however, as it makes it easier to loosen the fittings. One fitting has a hex integral with the canister so that you can hold the canister with a wrench to keep it from turning as you loosen the fittings.
I didn't drain any gas from mine, about a half a liter came out and I just used a rag to soak it up.
