You do no need a boost guage!

Just keep increasing the boost pressure setting until you start hitting the fuel cut pressure, then reduce until you don't. If you had a boost gage you would do exactly the same thing and get to exactly the same adjustment in the end.
With the 2001 you have the T7. You will be able to increase the turbo spool rate, but not be able to increase the peak mass air flow rate. So driveablily and responsiveness will improve, but perhaps not peak power. Note that with the T7 you will get 'soft' fuel cuts. So you will have to be sensitive to a more subtle signal.
I think jury is still out on the merit of MBC's on T7's. Let us know how it works out. For the T5's the MBC is a very impressive.
