I know this has been discussed here many times but I have a question for those of you who replaced the front speakers.
I have an early 99 9-3 and when I pulled out the front oem speakers, I noticed they were labeled 8 ohm impedence. Since virtually all aftermarket speakers are 4 ohms, I asked the dealership if it was ok to replace them. They told me they would not suggest it as have a couple of car audio places (though no one gave me the feeling they really knew what they were talking about). The car audio folks said that the decks tend to run hot if they were designed for 8 ohm speakers and it leads to premature deck failure.
It is obvious that a bunch have you have replaced the front speakers but I was wondering the following. For those of you who did the upgrade without adding an amplifier...
1) Did everyone have the same 8 ohm oem speakers?
2) Did anyone have their deck fail after putting in new speakers?
3) Did anyone else with an early 99 do the upgrade? (I think my car is has the old Clarion deck that Saab used before switching to Pioneer.)
4) Did anyone upgrade a long time ago (ie 2 years).
I haven't pulled out the rear speakers to see if they are 8 ohms as well but if anyone know that, I would be curious.
Thanks in advance
