Weird experience: Flying down the highway - (it was empty 'cept for the three cars in my pack) at well over 100 for about an hour when I realize that I'm getting alarmingly low on gas. I put off exiting for a refuel b/c I don't want to lose the 'train' I was with; Right after the low fuel light turns on, the car kind of hiccups and I think - damn, must be the switch to reserve... but then the check engine light comes on.

When I get gas, I check the oil, other fluid levels, and make a cursory examination of the intake to see if the engine's starving for air, but all's fine. The check engine light remains on for the approx 150 miles to home (at a far more sane speed)

The next day, the light's still on, but no time to get to the dealer. Just as its getting dark, though I think... hey, better at least hose the bugs off the front of the car, so I do. I also open the hood and run a blast of engine degreaser plus water to clean out the bay.

Here's where it gets weird... when I start the car up again, the check engine light's off! It hasn't come back for three days. I mean, a clean car always seems to run better, but this is strange, no?

Qs:

Does the check engine light always come on when you dip into reserve? I'm thinking, maybe?
Does it automatically turn off after two hood lifts? Sounds odd to me.
What are the odds that the check engine light simply burnt out? Low, right?(My 9-3's only two years old, and that was the first time the light's been on)
So what's the answer?
