Depending on whether it is an item that would perform less well if pre-used, or something that is not really subjected to wear and tear, I wouldn't go all the way and say that re-used parts are a bad thing. Bumpers, doors, windscreens that are not damaged can easily be re-used.
If you are talking about tires, brakes, rotors, then that's a diferent story.
But at the end of the day, if a SAAB can last 200K plus, which would take 10 years or more for most of us, then parts taht are only 1 or 2 year old could hardly be considered to be unreliable if not subjected to wear and tear.
ANd heh, $8000 of damage is some major accident! Better let us know how you got away.
