I don't think they are even good for appliances...

at one time, they rated a Bosch dishwasher as last (of the models they tested) in cleaning ability. Both my friend and I have owned Bosch dishwashers, and they are awesome in cleaning ability, interior space, options, water and electicity useage, and noise. Plus, they heat the water with an internal heater, instead of using that lame "ring" heater that American dishwashers use.
I personally cannot stand CR because they develop these obscure tests that (1) aren't very scientific and (2) don't really ever explain their testing very well. For instance, when they tested refrigerators, they used a "100 point checklist," but never stated what a single point on the checklist was. I personally care more about efficiency and sealed shelves than I do about pull-out shelves (which I've used only a few times, mainly to show other people how neat they are), but there's no way to actually know what CR's testing is.
In terms of the 9-3, I like mine. My problems are squeaky rear seats (although I must say that the car was hit in the rear 3 days after I got it, to the tune of 11k in damage) and a transmission that sticks in 3rd and is almost impossible to get into fourth. If these are fixed by the dealer, I'll be more than happy with the car. It's fun to drive and yet very functional.
