First, obtain the list of warranty repairs using the VIN. Each repair will state a dealer name. Contact the leasee's dealer, and ask for the history. They'll need the VIN to cross reference a customer's name.
Although, if you are purchasing an off lease car (especially if it is under warranty still), your largest concern should be collision history or paintwork. The leased cars, for the most part, have been fairly scrutinized as far as service goes. Saab financial requires the maintenance of the vehicle to be performed, or they bill for it at the end. Therefore, this eases the majority of the neglect of service problems.
Also, run a CARFAX. It will tell you whether there are any obvious accident reports (some states report accidents to CARFAX), and where the vehicle spent it's life (making it easier to contact the previous dealer). CARFAX is always a good idea, it's not 100%, but you do stand a better chance of not buying a salvage vehicle (NOT ALL CARS WITH CLEAR TITLES ARE CLEAN OF SALVAGE HISTORY), and it gives you a quick glance into the vehicle's life.
Purchasing off lease vehicles makes buying a nice car slightly easier, but just like all other used cars, there are still problem vehicles out there.
I hope that this helped.
Cheers,
Brian.
