had the same experience a couple of weekends ago replacing the fronts with some blaupunkpt (PCxt352) coaxials... they were also rated at 4ohms (compared to the 8oms on the paper cone's in there)... a 4 ohm speaker driven from the same amp will be LOUDER at the same volume setting than an 8 ohm speaker (assuming the amplifier is rated to drive between 4 and 8 ohms, which is almost always the case)... in my install i found this difference to be too great (the system was too "bright") and having had this experience years ago in the headrest speakers of my miata, i went to an electronics supply store (Frys or Radio Shack) and purchased some 10 watt, 4ohm resistors which i wired in-line... this brings the volume back down... you may want to experiement with smaller values (2ohms) to see if that matchs better (which would give you a total resistance of 6 ohms)... its as much art as science but make sure you don't use the little tiny banded resistors... they can't handle the power (or the truth!)... you need a large ceramic resistor that can handle at least 5 watts.
