I thought the same thing happened to me. Everything electric shut down, but the engine stayed on, or so I thought. But did it? I "restarted" the car so quickly (to get out of traffic) that I wasn't really sure.
A few months later, it happened a second time. This time I had the presence of mind to really check to see if the engine was on. It wasn't. Then I realized what happened.
My cane, which had been leaning against the passenger seat, fell onto the ignition key when I rounded a corner. The weight of my cane (which, actually, is quite light) was enough to turn the key and shut everything off.
After this happened a THIRD time, I learned to wedge the cane between the seat and the center console.
