The primer is not necessarily white... Usually this just indicates a scratch in the clearcoat. That is, if your car HAS clearcoat. The solid colors like black and red do NOT. The "metallic" colors like Steel Grey have it.
I've given this advice before, and here goes:
For the best results, take it to a paintless dent removal place. Starting around a $100 they'll make disappear. After all you paid thousands for the car right? And unsightly scratches only piss you off and definitely lower the resale value and "curb appeal".
If you're willing to tackle this yourself, always Alway ALWAYS try the least abrasive product first. You can sometimes polish out the scratch if its not too deep (does you fingernail catch in it?) Try one of the fine polishes (Meguiars, Mothers, etc), if that doesn't do it, then work up to Meguiars Swirl Remover, if that doesn't work, then finally some light compound paste. I dunno about GS-27 scratch remover that is heavily advertised. You might try that too...
Only as a LAST resort, use touch up paint. This is VERY difficult to get right and you can usually spot the repair from a few feet away. Make sure the surface is totally devoid of wax using "3M Adhesive Tar & Wax Remover" (available in WalMart). There are entire website devoted to trying to fix scratches and detail cars. Good luck.
