Time For Service... at 4,200 miles?

The "Time for Service" indicator appeared on the SID today. Not that unusual, except the odometer is just under 4,200 miles.
I do make a lot of short trips; specifically, my daily commute is less than 2 miles. Does the engine computer count the number of engine starts or something, in addition to mileage, before it proclaims "Time for Service?" Or is this a sign of something bad?
Okay... just checked the manual. It says Time for Service also turns on after 365 days since last service. I suppose my car has never been serviced, unless you count the 30-day service, which I had last May. (I took delivery of the car in April.)
I was planning to get an oil change at 5K, but I wasn't expecting Time for Service until 10K. Should I just clear the message and forget about it?
