rear window washer pressure weak (99)

After two years, the rear window washer has lost most of its squirt, The wiper run on dry glass much of the time. Over time, this will scratch the glass.
My mechanic has ordered a new pump (under warranty) on the thesis that, since the impeller runs in one direction for front spray and the same impeller runs the opposite direction for rear, a self-forming groove, over time, will come to favor front sprayer pressure over rear.
If his thesis is correct, then off warranty, it seems the only way to avoid buying a new pump every two years is to make sure you use your rear window sprayer a lot.
