Interesting. My story: 1999 9-3, lease ends in May, 02. Was initially contacted by Chase 1 month ago offering to waive remaining payments totalling $1300 and buyout of $16500. (price in my lease contract) I said no thanks, calling back a few days later to offer $12,500 with waiver of the remaining payments. Chase countered with what they said were absolute bottom line offers: 1) Buy now for $15,600 with remaining payments waived. 2) Buy at end of lease for $14,000. Chase said they had bought an insurance policy guaranteeing them $14,000 at auction for Saabs. If the car sold at auction for less than $14,000 the insurance company had to make up the difference. The insurance company only paying out if auction price less than $14,000, not if Chase sold directly to individuals at less than $14,000. Called my dealer, looked at Edmunds.com, KBB.com and NADA.com, figure my car's worth no more than $13,000 now.
