My exhaust was getting louder, and I assumed that I had a hole, so I decided to replace it (75K miles). It turned out to be a hole in the center muffler, not my exhuast, but that's OK. It was an extra $200 for the new center muffler. I expect yours will wear out eventually, but as Dean has said on this BB before, as long as you intend to replace it some day, you might as well do it now and get the full benefit for the life of the car since it's a lifetime part.
I can't say that I feel a huge power increase, but maybe a small one. What I do feel is much tighter acceleration. I have the K&N and a Dawes MBC, and my exhaust was definitely the bottle neck. Now that bottle neck is gone and it's a lot of fun to drive. My wife drove it for the first time in a while and she actually smoked the tires pulling out of the driveway! She wasn't used to the additional power. Next up, improve the airbox intake. Later, I'll do the throttle body transition casting clean-up that Dean reccomends. My goal is to get as much power as possible without spending a lot of money. Except for the exhaust, all my mods will cost less than $50.
FYI, my indie placed the center muffler and put on the sport exhaust for $40. I called my dealer and they quoted me $120 just to install the sport exhaust! What a bunch of crooks.
