Simplistically:
Perhaps the easiest term is "adaptive strategy". It remembers how you have driven the car in the past vs. how you are driving it right now.
If your wife drives it conservatively--when you get it, get on the road on a slight incline, put it into 5th gear at 1,500 rpms and floor it until you get to 85 - 95 mph to quickly remap the ECU.
