I took my car to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, onto the outside track, and I only have Springs, 17" SSRs, and Kumho 712. I also have an automatic. Although there was an INCREDIBLY amount of torque steer, my car would stick to the ground if handled right. I was surprised at how well my car actually handled, DIDN'T SPIN OUT ONCE. I had a really good cat and mouse game with my friend's cousin who has a 323i manual tranny. On the curves I would gain on him, inch by inch, and on the straight, I would pull on him. Finally, he let me pass on a straight cuz I was right on his tail and still pulling. After I passed him up, he couldn't catch up. btw, he was just as good a driver as I am. My car just had more power in the straights.
Basically, you gotta know how to drive you car, simple as that. The instructors were surprised at how well I ran my car around the track and staying ahead of cars that were MUCH faster than mine. They had experience with Saabs fore and told me they could hear the torque steer from miles away, but were amazed at how I well I was driving the car.
All in all, I believe the lowering springs helped a GREAT deal in handling. Lots of torque steer, but you'll be surprised at how well the car sticks to the ground if handled right.
