On Sunday afternoon, I was parked in a parking lot outside a local store with plenty of room between my 9-3 and the minivan in the next parking place. When I came out of the store and approached my car, a woman came up to me and said, "I thought you would want to know that the minivan that was parked next to you hit your bumper as it backed out. Here, I copied down the license plate number." Sure enough, I looked at the corner of the front bumper and there were several scuff marks and a couple of places where the paint was scraped off down to the plastic.
I phoned it in to my insurance company and they are working on contacting the driver of the minivan and his/her insurance company.
Then this morning as I was driving to work, I was driving slowly through orange cones that were re-routing the lane for some construction on the side of the road. There were several other cars behind mine and we were all travelling about 5-10 miles an hour. All of a sudden, the guy in the car behind me runs into my back bumper! He must have been busy looking at the construction equipment and not the road (grrr). I glanced in my rear-view mirror, saw the shocked look on his face, and safely stopped my car and put on the hazzard lights. After a quick look at the bumper, I saw there was no structural damage...just some smudge/scuff marks on the bumper. <sigh>
Knowing there is no guarantee that I will be able to get any money for items this "small" and that the repair costs are under my collision deductable, what is my best bet for working out the scuff marks if I have to work on this myself? Would a swirl-remover polish be the right thing to tackle this or do I need something stronger?
Sorry for the ramblings to get to the actual question. I'm just irritated.
