The max tire pressure on the tire itself is the pressure that the tire manufacturer believes is the limit for the tire before there is risk of the tire failing. This has very little to do with the pressure required for your vehicles wieght and load.
Whats wrong with following Saab's recommendations? The recommended pressure on my 95SET is 33 PSI all around. I like to run at 35 PSI, some others have run at 37 PSI. Higher pressures will improve steering response and mpg's but at the expense of ride comfort. Higher pressures also protect the wheel from getting bent.
I know, how do you know that a guage is accurate. Not much to depend on with a cheap spring type device. Some feel the circular dial guages are better. The/some digital units claim to be very accurate.
