Hello,

Have driven an anaemic 90' 9000CD 2.3 for 6 + years. I just picked up a 99' 9-3 S, auto with 39k on it (still under warranty until 7/02 apparantly), and am amazed at the available power. - However I noticed some odd behavoir (or maybe I've just been too used to the ageing 9000!):

1) When stopping after a 15 - 20 mile highway run the car idles high - about 1200 RPM (still in "D"). Then, having then gone through a few start stops on side roads, occasionally the RPM will drop all the way down to about 500 and the car will shudder excessively - almost as if you failed to depress the clutch early enough were it a stick. Note - the RPM seems to drop in tandem with road speed and I can feel a slight vibration through the brake pedal (it's like as if the torque converter was "sticking"). A few more, start stops, and it's back at 1200 RPM, eventually settling back to around 900. It's random - but worrysome and I suspect everything from the transmission, through torque converter and ECU.

2) In comparison to the 9000, the steering feels "weird" - a little heavy and doesn't quite "follow the road", if you know what I mean. - I find I have to be much more attentive in curves. Sort of like driving on grossly underinflated front tires...I thought I heard of some recall around this, but can't find it anywhere...

3) What's the ECU recall for? any other recalls I should look into?

4) I think I have the heater problem - the knob that changes the airflow patterns doesn't have the "crisp" action as you rotate it through the "steps" - it's quite stiff and doesn't seem to "click" into place. Does it have to be completely broken before the dealer will replace it?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions / advice!
