I hardwired mine about 3 months ago when I hardwired my GPS on my 99 9-3 se conv.
This is what I did....
I used the cigarette lighter as my power source and ran the wire under the glove compartment, up the inside of the door edge and then around the edge of the inside of the window. I used this power supply because it was easy to get to and I knew it was swiched power (on only when the car is).
