1. A clutch interlock requires the clutch to be depressed before the engine can be started, found on most cars including the Nissan Altima you mentioned.
2. I don't mean damage to the the engine or starter. I mean damage to the car body, garage or humans nearby.
BTW, the Saab ignition switch needs to be fully turned off to restart the car. The key need not be removed to restart as you were doing, for example after stalling the engine.
