I would go for the new but I would lease for three years with no money down other than 1st payment and tags and then buy at the residual 3 years later. You might even get to buy it for less than the residual athough Saab Financial will not be discounting at lease end nearly like Chase has been doing. I lease a 99 and I think the 02 is a much nicer car. The mouse fur on the 99 is ugly and cheap and the suspension is not as good. The doors shut much better on the 02. Plus you get free maintenence for 36,000 miles. The interest on the 02's is about 0.7785%. If something happens and you end up not liking a Saab, you will really regret the depreciation. I made the mistake of buying a 94 9000 and the depreciation in 2 years will be more than I would have spent leasing a new 9-3 for three. With Saab, lease before you buy if you have never owned a Saab. By the way, your lease will be much less a month than your payment on the 99. Invest the downpayment in something else. By the way, I have leased two 99s, one 00, one 01, and am about to lease two more 02s. All Saabs of course (9-3s and 9-5s). This is experience talking.
