Boy, there was a long post about BMW vs Saab several down the list. You may want to take a look at that. I had the same choice, viggen vs. 330 conv. Both cars are great cars, but each has very different characteristics. BMW seemed like a tighter car than saab. More rigid, etc. I seemed to feel that there was more shoulder room in the BMW as well. BMW has a nice roll-over protection scheme with the tubes popping-out behind the passenger seats. Saab seems to be relying on its tall tail. You may want to check out rear visibility in both. With the deals on the saab right now, you can probably get a 9-3 for a lot less than a BMW. Residual values on saabs suck however.
I prefer the saab seating position, higher. I also feel as if I got/get better road feedback through the steering wheel on the saab than I did on the BMW. Viggen seats are great.
A 9-3 should be a fair amount quicker than the 325.
If you are talking about snow driving, then the saab wins hands down.
I went with the saab because BMWs are a dime a dozen around here. I got more umph in the saab. IMO it looks better -- wife told me the BMW conv. was a girls car. More trunk space. More room in the back. Oh, and I can't stand the orange dash lighting in the BMW. I was told that BMW did research into the best lighting and determined it was that crappy orange glow.
If you're concerned about re-sale, I would guess that you are looking at a few years max. You may want to look at leasing. Some really good saab leases out there right now.
Again, both are great cars. It all depends on what you are looking for.
Good luck. Let us know what you do.
