This is in response to some recent posts on what cap cost is, plus interesting site for assessing leases.
Cap Cost is the agreed to value of the car which is used as the basis for determining the depreciation amount (and ultimtaely payment amt) -- which is dependent upon the residual value.
So if you have a car with mSPR of 35K, cap cost could be 32K (due to mfg incentives or if you negotiate the cap cost), and you put down $2K of cap cost reduction; and the residual is $15K. You are amoritizing the $15K over x months. So you're payment is based upon $32K - $2K - $15K. A money factor - which is a rent charge (technically not interest) is applied to determine the monthly payment.
Intellichoice is a great web site that covers the mechanics of leasing and also tracks the best lease deals for all auto mfg. Link below will take to their analysis of leases for Saab
