We have a 9-3 and I had a 9-5 until December.

The 9-3 is OK for short trips in the back seat; the biggest problem is not head room. The problem is width and leg room. Adults will fit, but getting in the rear seat is not esay as there is little room for your feet to swing into the car. Also, once in, the lower seat cushion is very low to give you more head room; this means no leg support. Fastening the seat belts is tough becuase of the narrow width of the car. The 9-3 drives pretty bad with all that weight in the back. For instance, put 4 adults in the car and luggage and you will see that the rear of the car is almost dragging and the suspension has little travel less. If you get a 9-3 with an Auto Trans, it will struggle when full, especially in the summer with the AC on.

The 9-5 is bigger in the back. It also drives better and is just as easy to park since the steering is lighter and the view out the rear window is better. Turning radius? The 9-5 is not so bad.

If you must drive customers on a regular basis, the 9-3 is not ideal. Once a month for a short trip it might be OK if the customers are younger guys with a good sense of humor. If you must drive very serious people to and from the airport, or on longer trips, they may wonder why you have such a small car.

I went through the same thing when I bought a 1997 Saab 900 as a company car. I ended up trading it in for a Passat 1 year later as I had trouble driving people around.

If you choice is New 9-3 or Tarus/Accord/Camry; get the Saab. If your choice is new 9-3 or almost new 9-5, you may want to try for the 9-5.

Good Luck,

-Doug
