9-3 OE tire questions

Hi 9-3 guru,
I have 2 questions regarding the tires on my 9-3 SE. Hope you can provide some insights.
1. The car came brand new with 205/55/16 (V rated) Pirelli P6000 SV tires. But the standard equipment listed in the brochure and the saab website both specify 205/50/16 (W rated) tires as the standard equipment. There is a difference of about 3.3% between the diameter of the 2 sizes. Do you know which tire size is the speedometer actually tuned for?
2. The wheels are 16x6.5. I know that a set of 215/50/16 tires will fit on these wheels. The diameter will be slightly less than that of the 205/55 but still more than the 205/50. But if the 205/55/16 (as in question 1) is actually the right OE size, I am interested in trying to fit 225/50/16 tires on these wheels (same diameter as 205/55/16). Has anyone tried this before? Does it work? If so, is the performance and appearance gain of the wider tire worth the sacrifice on ride quality and noise increase?
thanks,
VP
