1994-2002 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
This may be a California thing but the dealers out here must not want business. We are looking to lease a 93 for my wife. We've picked out a non premium, auto in black, no extras. The first dealership I went to I walked around the lot for about 15 minutes before I had to go inside to find an actual salesperson. The lady came out showed me all the stuff on the car (I actually knew more from the internet and I've never even sat in a Saab before). Got a whopping 5 minute test drive in dead stop traffic. I tell here we have a Nissan Xterra to trade in so she gets an evaluation sheet and walks straight over to a Chevy Silverado truck. After pointing out the correct car she writes down the info and go back to her office. As soon as I tell her it's going to be under my wife's name she says she can't get me a quote til she runs her credit. She wouldn't give me a ballpark on my trade in, payments, or anything. I left there pretty disgusted. Later that week I had my wife (she was out of town) call the salesperson with all her info to get a quote. Four days later we get a call back with a quote of $3700 drive off, $345 plus tax. When we ask if that's with the trade in (which we are upside down on), she say's what trade in? She ask's if it was a blind evaluation, and I had to remind her that she did the evaluation. She comes back saying that they are going to give us $15,600 for the Xterra and that would come to $4200 drive off, $440 plus tax. All this is happening while we are driving home from Vegas, and she is pressuring that the deal has to be done that day. I told my wife to hang up, we're not rushing this. Yesterday, we go to a different Saab dealership (but has the same owner). Walk around the dealership for about 15 minutes before we had to look for a salesperson. Hmm...sounds familiar. Now I like low pressure, but I also like to be acknowledged. My wife finally gets to drive the car and she loves it. We start off with a great quote of $3200 drive off, $303 plus tax. Then we bring up the trade in. After evaluating and checking prices, they come back with $14000. Very shocked I asked him where he was coming up with his numbers since the poor blue book value isn't even that low. Our car is between good and excellent and that puts us between 15,300 and 16,500. When I mention that he says Kelley Blue Book means nothing to the dealers. When I ask him why most dealers have a link on their website to KBB to check trade in values, he has no answer. Now we battle back in forth and calling the other Saab dealership, to find out how they supposedly offered $15,600 on the trade in. They said they never said that and faxed over a quote that their sales manager said had given me over the phone the day before. I had never even talked to the sales manager, only my wife had, so now we had them in a flat out lie. Scrambling he offers, what to we have to do to make a deal. Being pretty pissed off I tell him give us a fair price on the trade in so we can have a payment we can deal with. Not wanting to budge I start hammering him on the new car price saying if we are closer to invoice then we might be able to do something. Now he is pissed off saying they are a "no haggle" dealership and the car is already getting discounted. I tell him every dealer is giving the factory discounts, and we walk out. I guess I'm confused on "no haggle" dealerships. How does that benefit the customer? Anyways I called the only dealership that was open today, I had to leave a message at 10am, no salespeople answered. We got home at 3pm and no return call. I called back and finally got ahold of somebody. I guess she was upset she was working on a Sunday, because she just guesstimated $3500-4000 drive off and $330 plus tax. Didn't ask if I wanted to come in, how soon are you looking, nothing. It was like I called her at home and bothered her! Anyways, I love the car but the dealership experience is leaving alot to be desired. It is also making us look at dealerships alot farther away from where we live. Hopefully we can find both the deal and dealer we want soon.
