Re: Renew OnStar? Posted by Michael [Email] ![]() ![]() In Reply to: Renew OnStar?, Paul ![]() |
I think the OnStar is a wonderful system. I have used it several times in the month I have had my new 9-3, both for directions and for a concierge type request:
Directions: I new to the town where I live, and the roads are sometimes difficult to negotiate. I certainly can print out directions from MapQuest, but since I drive by myself it's dangerous to try and read them as I go...so OnStar has helped me out several times.
Concierge: I was driving my parents around the coast and it became clear that we were not going to make it back in time for our dinner reservations in Portland, so I called OnStar and asked if they could help out. We didn't have the number to the restaurant, so they found it, called them and then patched them through on a conference call. The restaurant saved our table for us and we had a wonderful dinner.
In general: the assistants on the OnStar have always been extremely courteous and knowledgable, and the hands-free microphone works great. Plus, the saftey aspects of OnStar- roadside assistance, accident notification, etc- are really worth the price alone.
I think its an amazingly good service. I think it's a much better solution overall than even the map-based gps system on my Dad's Lexus LS430- that requires all sorts of programming and button pushing to get directions- I prefer just pushing a button and talking to someone.
