Car manufacturers are wheeling and dealing back and forth with the service maintenance schedule from year to year to polish the price.
One year you get this, another year you get that.
30K miles have been the norm for a major service for many cars.
In 1992 Saab decided to go to a 35K cycle for the major service. BUT, only for the first service, the next one happened at 65K, not 70K that would be the natural choice.
In 1998 they decide to switch back to 30K again, who knows why?
AND, products gets better and better from year to year so they can extend the life cycle on certain products.
Take brake fluid for instance, that was a requirement to replace before at any major service. Now the customer have to request to have it changed.
And on 2000 or 2001 models, the first 30k service is free, IF, you don't own a base model. Then you have to pay for it.
As going back to your question, the price on a major service depends a LOT on what year and model of car you have and in what part of US you live, ( here in Los Angeles the dealer hourly rate is around $90.00/hour) If out side US, the price can be a whole different story.
I think one of the guys frequenting this board is from Russia, and the prices there is not even a third of the US prices.
