I hope you're getting auto transmission Posted by Randy Thatcher [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() In Reply to: AUTOMATIC CAR STARTER?, KIM, Wed, 24 Apr 2002 10:17:06 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Auto start wouldn't work with a manual, as it gets locked in reverse. Another Saab quirk is no clutch interlock on the starting circuit. I.e you can attempt to start the car with the gear engaged. My dealer said "Saab assumes the driver is smart enough to know how to drive the manual transmission". I've rented cars in Europe that had this "feature", too. My 2 manual transmission Dodge cars (94 shadow, 97 neon) had clutch interlocks. Either way, you're not starting a manual tranny car automatically.
How do these auto start systems work? Do you need a key in it? I don't know exactly what security features are in the 9-3 automatic, but I think you need the key in the car to start it due to a chip/magnet/voodoo in the key. The key may also mechanically lock the car in "park".
