My husband usually drives our 2001 9-3 convertible - I tried to tell him one time it looked like a "girl's car" in hopes he would hand it over to me but no luck! Yesterday though I took it by the dealer we bought it from for some service - just have to say, so far, all our experiences there have been great and I thought I'd pass along this info in case it can help someone else in their interactions with a dealer.
They were reasonable in the purchase negotiations (maybe could have gotten them down slightly lower but didn't think it was worth possibly damaging any goodwill). They were not pushy but were more than willing to let us borrow the car for more than a weekend which was a very convincing sales approach! And they have been true to their word on providing loaners which have been other Saabs and they make it extremely quick and easy. For the 1000 mile check, we got a very nice 9-5 - was quite a bit roomier. At that time, at no charge, they disabled the "chirp" sounds when locking/unlocking car and made the headlights more "manual" so they can be turned off if desired.
Took car in yesterday to have slow leak in a tire checked (was a nail in it), for 5000 mile oil change, and to have the trunk hatch/indicator light checked. The tire was fixed for $15 (I wondered about tire warranty but forgot to ask), the oil change was $35 (using a coupon they mailed us) plus the disposal fee (about $7) and they adjusted the trunk mechanism under warranty coverage.
My loaner yesterday was a 2002 9-3 convertible - about the same as our 2001 with these exceptions:
* auto rather than manual (not nearly as much fun);
* had auto climate control (think I prefer the manual system);
* had slightly better looking interior door trim;
* had the word "turbo" imbedded in the seatbacks - I thought Viggens had this but this one wasn't a Viggen - didn't like it, think it looks cheesy;
* had the center padded armrest which I guess was kind of nice but not that much better;
* had the same crappy drink holder;
* the color was steel gray (ours is silver) which looks great!
In prior non-Saab dealer experiences, I've never been very impressed and often felt they overcharged for service. Now, because of the convenience this dealer offers, even if charges were slightly higher, it would be worth it.
By the way, the dealer is International Auto in a suburb of Kansas City.
