I recently bought a '99 9-3 se with 52,000. My other car is an '87 900 turbo. I love both but...the 9-3 has nothing on the 900 in durability. my 900 has 230,000mi and not all of them were gentle, in fact after having four drivers this past summer in boston I thought the car would die, it's still running, but it really wants to rest. we call it the truck, since it sits in a driveway with five other saabs it's the oldest. ('88 9000t, "88 conv, '90 900s, '99 9-5 wagon)
my 9-3 is great, but it just doesn't posess the solidity that the 900 does. it's too plastic, one hard trunk slam and some part broke and now it rattles, the 900's trunk doesn't even close right from abuse but it doesn't rattle. the glove box on the new one bareley stays shut, it just feels fragile. yesterday the trim around the driver's seat broke off, it was held to metal with a piece of plastic, and two poorly placed screws.
Is there anyone out there who wants their 9-3 to be tough?? the 900 is a tank. I really want to remain loyal to saab but they need to be loyal to the brand's history. It's like the designers of the 9-3 never spent any time with a 900. there should be no stupid plastic trim. the back seats should fold down no matter where the front seats are and you shouldn't have to be careful, it's a saab right?
Any suggestions for a five speed turbo little truck that is super fun to drive? the saab 9-3, but where is the model with all the creature features and no plastic bullsh** trim??
How can I join the design team? I am a sculpter, a designer a car freak and a saab fan.
the things I love about the 9-3 I couldn't fit here, I love it. I own it and I will test it's durability, I hope it can beat the 900 in miles. I drive 40mi a day and it is so nice, fun, smooth...it's my saab.
thanks for the soapbox,
