coasting & saving gas... Posted by JimBlake [Email] (#141) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JimBlake) on Wed, 8 May 2002 11:07:59 In Reply to: Re: Coasting Automatic, Tony Basile, Mon, 6 May 2002 12:12:40 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
Most engine management systems these days shut off fuel during overrun. This is for emmissions, but it does save gas ;-) You use gas to idle, NONE when the car is going downhill IN GEAR with your foot OFF the gas. Same for coasting up to a redlight. Leave it in gear to save gas, unless you've got a carburator.
Most of my recent former & current cars had this...
'72 Datsun with a carburator - NOT
'74 BMW 2002tii - mechanical FI - NOT
'82 VW Rabbit with CIS - NOT
'86 VW Jetta - YES
'89 Saab 900 - YES
'95 Acura Integra - YES
'98 Honda Accord - I Think so
'01 9³ - YES
