Try adjusting the little posts or stops that stick out of the hatch; the little black plastic round post about the size of your thumb. Turning them coutner clockwise makes them longer and tightens the fit of the hatch. Try adjusting both ways, but count how much you turn them so that you can return to where you began.
Also, try this. They make a type of lube for weather seals; I do not remember the name but I think somebody else on this board will know. Lube the seals and perhaps the squeak will stop.
All Saab NG 900 and 9-3's squeak and rattle horribly from the rear. But, do not feel bad as Passat's squeak and ratttle from the dash. If you cannot handle squeaks and rattles, you will need to buy Japanese. Even BMW's make a lot of noise after a few months on American roads. The low profile tires on the 9-3 SE make for a firmer ride and increase the rattles.
