It's those headlights. Very Jetta-esque from the side.
I think without that Aero bodykit it would probably look pretty good. Not a very original design, however, as I can see some BMW, VW, and Mercedes-Benz in it. Overall nice, but I would have thought that Saab could have created something a little more interesting- something a little more "Saab."
That interior is a mess. I would assume that without the navigation system that there would be a decently shaped radio, which would really clean it up a bit. The steering wheel is nasty and looks like it belongs in a GM USA car. Maybe the US market cars will come with a better wheel. The one in current 9-3s is quite nice.
I had a 9-3 from May '98 to July '01, and a few weeks ago I purchased an Audi A4 1.8T quattro. I needed a new car immediately and could not wait for the '03 9-3. After seeing these pictures, I do not regret my purchase of the A4. I still feel that, based solely on appearance, the A4 is the best car I could have purchased. I don't mean to start any flame wars here, but I am a little disapointed with the new 9-3. I loved my '99, but I think that even it was deeply flawed compared to the competition. I only hope that the new one bridges the gap between BMW/Audi and "the rest." I have no doubt that the new 9-3 will be the #3 or 4 Sports Sedan. I just wish Saab would make it the #1.
