1994-2002 [Subscribe to Daily Digest] |
I am a new Saab owner. I bought my first Saab 2 months ago. It is a 9-3 convertible,2002. Anyway, the new 9-3 sedan looks great to me. Most of you on this board seem to be long time Saab people, so I thought you might want to hear the perspective from a new Saab guy. My other car is a 91 MB 560 SEL, and a 2000 Ford Expedition. I had a friend with a Saab 900 back in 1982. The car fell apart. Bad tranny trouble. But I loved driving that car. Then the guy got a 318i. I loved the bimmer too, but not as much as the Saab. Then I forgot all about the Saab's as I became a Benz driver. I have had 2 MB's. Great cars. But in all of my years, I never even thought about talking about my Benz with other Benz drivers. Never. The cars are just good transportation and nice. Nothing more. But the Saab is way different. I never had fun like this driving before. So now I am reading the history of the car, watching the Saab board, looking at the pictures of the new 2003 9-3 etc. You guys are so passionate about these cars! Half of you hate the new design, others love it. This brand of car inspires something unusual in us. We want to argue about the changes, suggest others, etc. Saab has been doing something right for years to generate this kind of passion. I am beginning to understand it myself. From what I have seen in the pictures, the new 9-3 looks to be a very cool car. And I bet it has as much fun factor as the current models. But I also think the car will get noticed by other drivers. I think Saabs are going to get more popular over the next few years. This might be good, maybe not. I like having something different. But I do wish more people were driving these cars. I think you would see more smiles on peoples faces rather than frowns. The hatch is no biggie. They can bring it back in a years notice if they think there is enough demand for it. I think it will be back eventually. So that is my take on this Saab 9-3 stuff. Looks like all is well at Saab to me.
