I've gone both routes in the past (albeit not with my Saab) as far as windshield replacement goes. I've found that typically a dealer will contract with an independent-type of operation that travels around with the materials to do the repair and the glass in their truck to dealer lots, your place of business, etc. This is the worst possible way to go - especially if the outdoor temperature is too cold or if there is any chance of rain. You can't get the car inside and the seal will never harden properly and you'll be plagued with leaks. I made that mistake once. =) I did know a friend once that went this route during the summer however and had his replaced on a 90+ sunny, summer day (no humidity) and it was fine. So I guess this could work both ways.
By far my best experiences have been with reputable glass shops that do nothing but glass - and have been in business for 20+ yrs. A good one will be certified by/a member of the NGA (National Glass Association) and they will have a warm, dry facility where your car can come inside while the seal is doing its initial hardening. If you have glass coverage through your insurance, I would insist on an OEM replacement windshield. The aftermarket styles - especially for Saab - don't fit exactly right and can lead to leaks down the road (no pun intended) even though they are cheaper. If you don't have glass coverage, it's really up to you and how daring you're feeling. =)
Another tip... during the first 24 hrs. or so leave a window cracked when you close the doors so as to eliminate any outward pressure on the seal as it is setting.
Good luck...
