I think that I'd agree that Mobil 1 10W-30 for a '99 would be just fine ---after all, I just posted to you that I ran it in my 1999/ 9-3/ HOT /5 speed/ without any problems.
I ran Mobil One 10W-30 in my 1996 SET 5 speed, and my wife's 1998 SET CV, and ...
For interesting reading, view the Mobil One website, and read the articles on synthetic, like the one on MB, Viper, Corvette, and Ford.
Interesting aren't they.
I sense that manufacturers are going to synthetic weights of 0W-30/0W-40 to get the CAFE higher.
Hey, my ride is under warranty. I am following the guidelines of my owners manual.
Never-the-less, somewhat of the rebel, I remember using Mobil 1 in 1985, and being laughed at, ----then I remember using the Dex Cool formula antifreeze in 1996, in my 1996 SAAB SET, and being laughed at --- and posting that SAAB was replacing the OE platinum spark plugs in the 1999 cars with the NGK BCPR6ES plugs --and getting flak for that post.....
I remember reading the ASTM paper on Mobil One 5W-30 20 years ago....where, except for one test, Mobil contended that their 5W-30 oil COULD almost pass as a Zero W 30 oil.
It seemed it just took several years for the general publicto "catch-on".
The Mobil One 0W-30 will indeed be the next OE level in lubrication for new cars. Check out MB this model year (and others...)
